Marshmello Wants a Collaboration with SZA

EDM and R&B can go together like peanut butter and jelly. Or, they can go together like tooth paste and orange juice. The outcome really depends on how well artists can adapt to different genres, but sometimes magic happens. From Jamie xx working with Frank Ocean to Pharrell working with Daft Punk, EDM and R&B pairings have a ton of potential.

Here’s another EDM/R&B pairing, at least if one popular artist has his way: Marshmello and SZA. Marshmello tweeted that he’s “been silent for too long” and he needs “to do a song with SZA.” Marshmello’s latest collaborations with artists like Khalid—who even covered SZA—shows he can step out of his comfort zone, so a SZA collaboration seems right at home. SZA has exploded in popularity since the release of her album Ctrl, even going on to receive several Grammy nominations.

Will Marshmello get his wish? The jury is out on that one, but we’ll keep you updated. Check out Marshmello’s tweets below:

2SCOOPS Drops Bass Infused Trap Monster “Limbo”

2Scoop’s has been on a roll in the LA bass scene as of late. Smashing track after track of his own brand of bassy goodness, his is undoubtably a sound to keep an eye out for. His latest trap creation, “Limbo” littered with grimey comb basses and high end metallic synths driving against a dark and dirty hip hop vocal, paints a clear picture of hectic sound design at its finest, not knowing where the tune will take you next. Easily a new best for the up and coming 2Scoops!

Artist Who Creates Art Using Ecstasy Pills Now Selling To General Public

Before you read any further, we have to note: these art pieces are not made with actual ecstasy pills. So if you’re thinking, “Oh, this is a new legal way to buy my pills! Let me order 12!” Just stop right now…

That being said, the artist known as Chemical X made a name for himself, among other ways, by creating large sculptures and art pieces out of real ecstasy pills. Just one of the pieces featured 7,000 ecstasy tablets and was worth $1.3 million dollars (way over market price per pill, but c’mon, it’s art).

Now he’s putting his designs up for sale to the general public – though, the pills of course do not contain any actual ecstasy.

There are many designs to choose from in the store – note that the “Gold Letters” and “Pill Letters” are customizable, and you can choose any letter you want.

All pieces are available now.

Axwell Announces Release Date For “Dreamer” With Sebastian Ingrosso

First premiered last year during ADE, Axwell Λ Ingrosso’s smash hit “Dreamer” finally has a release date: next Friday, December 8. The track has been played out by the duo ever since and has become one of their most sought-after IDs.

Due to its similarity to “Don’t You Worry Child,” there was a brief time when fans speculated it was a new Swedish House Mafia track, however those rumors quickly subsided; and they can finally be put to rest once and for all with this announcement today.

Axwell says the track will be “premiered” next Wednesday in Stockholm, so we’re wondering if it’s been updated at all since it was first played – otherwise, it might just be a language gap.

Either way, we can’t wait for next Friday!

Your EDM Premiere: GLD Flip Autograf’s “Simple” Into An Absolute Moombahton Festival Banger

Connecticut-based DJ and producer duo GLD, made up of Matthew Christian & Jacob Holzman, have just dropped their remix of Autograf‘s Spinnin’ Deep released record “Simple.”

GLD take Autograf’s “Simple,” a soothing danceable record, and flip it a full 180 degrees for the better, turning the record into a explosive festival moombahton banger.

Everything from tight percussion to cavernous 808s, and GLD’s signature screeching industrial synths make this sonically pleasing and intricately produced remix a definite mainstay for DJ’s to play out during the upcoming festival circuit.

Undoubtedly one of the most complicated feats to pull off in the electronic music industry is to carve out your own niche sound via boundary pushing production, GLD nails that task to a tee. Keep your eyes out for the duo as they continue to redefine how electronic music is supposed to sound.

Beatstats Releases Year-End Statistics On Top Performing Artists & Genres On Beatport

With the popularity of Spotify and iTunes, it’s curious to see how a platform like Beatport stays afloat. However, the music marketplace has created a niche in the dance music industry and has a veritable history in the genre, so we don’t think it’s going anywhere anytime soon.

In fact, the site still does a fair amount of business and warrants its own “Top of 2017” lists, thanks to site Beatstats, which collects information from Beatport for analysis. Among the lists are Top 10s for the usual artists, tracks, and labels; but one of Beatport’s selling points is its breakdown by genres, so of course there’s a Top 10 for that, as well.

Because of Beatport’s interesting place in dance music, some of these results come as rather surprising. For instance, the #1 track is Camelphat’s “Cola.” Camelphat is also the #1 artist across genres.

Check out some of the highlights below; for the whole list, go here.
